ATP Rankings Changes
After a grand slam tournament,
significant rankings changes can take place.
Here they are:
The Men
Dominic Thiem moved up 8 places and is now #8 in the
world. This guy is clearly knocking on
the door.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas had a great tournament and moved up 23
places to #32. He may well be seeded at
Wimbledon.
Other big movers were:
Dustin Brown. Up 30
places to #86. Will surely make
Wimbledon main draw.
Ernests Gulbis. Up 21
to #59.
Mikhail Kukushkin. Up
22 to #61.
The women:
Garbine Muguruza is now #2 in the world. Need anything more be said? She has a lot of points to defend at
Wimbledon, where she reached the final last year.
Venus Williams move up 2 spots and is now in the world’s top
10 at #9.
The Cinderella girls include:
Kiki Bertens. Up 29
spots to #27, a ranking the will likely get her seeded at Wimbledon.
Yulia Putintseva. Up
25 spots to #35.
Shelby Rogers. Up 48
spots(!) to #60.
Tsvetana Pironkova.
Up 31 spots to #71.
Final take on the French:
Spaniards did well, winning men’s
doubles and women’s singles. Garbine
Muguruza made a lot of noise. The
tournament was marred by dank weather and injury issues. Injuries led to withdrawals or retirements by
several top players – Azarenka, Federer, Nadal, Tsonga. Fans were a bit unruly at times, and there
were many line calls that did not match the findings of the Hawkeye system
employed by the networks.
